Here at Orange County Steam Masters we love seeing our customers throughout the year as we come out and clean your carpets and rugs. We feel like you genuinely become our family because we get to watch your family grow over the years. Many of our customers ask us what they can do to help their carpets and rugs stay looking good between our visits. Today we are going to share some of our favorite tips with you.
How Often Should You Vacuum?
The first thing that you need to make sure that you do is vacuum your carpet and rugs on a regular basis. You will want to make sure that you vacuum the high traffic areas extremely regularly. When you vacuum use a vacuum that is in good working condition. Make sure that you regularly clean out your vacuum. Cleaning out your vacuum will be a unique process for all the different vacuums. Use your vacuum’s user’s manual to know how to properly clean your vacuum.
Use Entrance Mats & Runners to Keep Dirt Off of Carpet
Second try to stop dirt from coming into your home as much as possible. There is no sure-fire method that will stop dirt from entering your home but there are a few things that you can do that help. Purchase mats that go both inside and outside of your door. Then make sure that your family knows that they are expected to wipe their feet and shoes on the mats every time that they come in and out of the house. This will greatly cut down on the amount of dirt that comes into your home.
Enforce No Shoes on Carpet
In addition to having mats by all of your doors you should also consider having your family and house guests take their shoes off before they come into your home. Not having people walk on your carpet and rugs with their dirty shoes will definitely keep your things cleaner. This topic does spark some debate amount our customers. Some people feel that asking your guests to take their shoes off when they come into your home is rude. Here at Orange County Steam Masters we feel like if you find a polite way to ask that it is not at all rude to have your house guests take their shoes off at the door. Certainly everyone can appreciate that you are trying to keep your carpets and rugs clean.
Clean Up Spills Quickly to Prevent Carpet Stains
Our third tip seems like common sense but it is extremely important. You will want to make sure that you clean up anything that spills on your carpet and rugs as soon as you see the spot. The longer that the spill has to sit on the fibers the harder that it will be to get out. When you are tempted to wait until a better time to clean up the spill you run the risk of it setting in your carpet and not coming out. So as soon as you see that spill make the time to clean it up immediately.
